For those of you new to tango, besides being the name of a tango dance event, milonga is also the name of a specific dance that was sort of the precursor to Argentine tango. The music is a bit faster and more upbeat. The steps are simpler, but it’s very important to step on every beat. Milonga and tango vals are played at all milongas, so it’s nice to have a basic understanding of both them. (Maybe vals next month…)

For those of you in the close embrace class, please note that it is now at 6:45 pm, not 7:00.

We are hoping there is enough interest with this idea so that we can have some folks bring either a main course, a side dish, a salad, or a desert.

We’ll eat dinner first with some holiday music in the background, and at 8:30 we’ll switch to tango music for the milonga.

The milonga costs $10 for members, $15 for non-members, and $5 for students.

Also, if you bring a dish to the Pot-Luck Meal, then we’ll take $5 off your entry to the milonga as well!

If you are planning to attend the dinner, it would be helpful to know this and send a reply email to markatuson@aol.com indicating what type of dish is intended so some of us on the board can fill in any holes. I look forward to hearing from you.

This months event is ATANH Beginners Night.

If you are familiar with AT, but haven’t tried close embrace previously, Zandy Clark will be teaching Beginner Close-Embrace, and for those of you who are already familiar, he’ll also include a sacada towards the end of the lesson that can be used with Close-Embrace.

Meanwhile, out back, Mark Tuson will be leading a lesson for anyone that is new to AT, and teaching the basic pattern for such beginners.

So … if you are new to AT and haven’t tried close embrace … or … if you are an experienced AT dancer and have a friend that you have been wanting to introduce to AT, then bring them down for the beginner AT lesson, and while they learn the basic pattern step into Zandy’s class for the secada at the back half of Zandy’s lesson.

Oh, and by the way, if you bring a friend that has never done AT previously, then we’ll enter you into a second drawing in addition to the usual drawing that we provide during the milonga.

Hope to see all of you, and a few new faces, too!

Sincerely,
