This is a rare opportunity to hear and dance to a world-class tango band!
Bernardo Monk, a saxophonist and composer, was born in Buenos Aires-born, and this will be his quartet’s first appearance ever in New Hampshire. Monk has been said to have an “electrifying” style melding Argentine tango with American jazz, while using a rich sound of traditional tango instruments including the violin, piano, double bass, and bandoneon, yet mixing in the saxophone, too. Monk has performed in Argentina, Boston, Providence, New York, Philadelphia, and Buffalo. He has released two CDs - Estación Buenos Aires (2004) and Ponele la Firma (2006). The CD release concert for Ponele la Firma was held at the Somerville Theater, and was attended by tango and jazz fans from across New England.
The event is being sponsored by the Argentine Tango Association of New Hampshire, WSCA Radio - Portsmouth and WSCA’s Tango Tales radio program, as well as the Mill Pond Center for the Arts in Durham.
Hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Mark Tuson
ATANH President
P.S. We will be sending a set of directions, announcing the instructor for the beginners lesson, and informing folks of the many door prizes folks who attend can win soon!
